Log file opened at: 1/16/06 7:29:00 PM
[7:48] <DM> Okay…so when we last left off, you all were in an alchemist’s shop in the city of Arrabar, trying to corral some creatures that had escaped their cages.
[7:49] <Hyacinth> [for definitions of "corral" that include both "run from" and "kill"]
[7:49] <DM> The owner of the shop, a woman by the name of Gwendolyn, is a petrified statue.  Her young helper, Elgeen, has begged you for help.
[7:49] <Magnifico> [description of the critters?]
[7:50] <DM> 2 cockatrices (1 killed, 1 captured)
[7:50] <Magnifico> [oh, great]
[7:50] <DM> 1 rust beast (captured)
[7:50] <DM> 1 darkmantle (killed)
[7:50] <Alanna> (along with one gnome, nearly killed….oops)
[7:50] <DM> Elgeen tells you there are thee big lizards left loose and a weird-looking snake.  You’ve cleared the ground floor.  The second floor remains.  The iron spiral staircase leading to the 2nd floor is dust from the floor to about 4 feet up, thanks to the rust beast.
[7:52] <DM> (can everyone see the map ok?)
[7:52] <Roamy> and we find no sign of the lizards or the snake on this floor at all now correct?
[7:52] <Magnifico> [yep]
[7:52] <DM> correct Roamy
[7:53] <Alanna> (The rust thing is safely locked away in a non-metallic cage?)
[7:53] <DM> Wooden cage, yes.
[7:53] * Obsidian looks for a way to make a rope ladder.
[7:53] <Alanna> “Okay. So, we just have to find a way up the stairs.”
[7:53] *** Roamy has quit IRC (Ping timeout)
[7:53] * Obsidian collects wood and ties it up.
[7:53] <Alanna> (Any crates or anything that we can rig a stairway of sorts from?)
[7:54] <DM> There are plenty of crates and boxes in the back room.
[7:54] * Obsidian makes a rope ladder.
[7:54] <Alanna> “See, she’s so very clever.”
[7:54] <Hyacinth> [3 big lizards, a weird looking snake, and a lag monster]
[7:54] <Alanna> (I was just gonna make a pile of boxes and hope it didn’t fall over!)
[7:55] * Hyacinth climbs up onto what’s left of the stairs, and holds her hand down for the rope ladder.
[7:55] <Hyacinth> [or falls into the maw of the Elf Eater below...]
[7:55] * Alanna waits her turn to climb.
[7:56] * Obsidian passes Hyacinth the ladder.
[7:56] * Magnifico offers his assistance in climbing.
[7:56] * Phantom stays back with Kys.
[7:57] <DM> Obsidian’s rope ladder is of pretty good quality.  A simple climb check is needed (at -1 bonus for her work).
[7:57] <Obsidian> (Would a few extra boxes make it even easier?)
[7:58] <Alanna> (That should be easy enough.)
[7:58] <DM> Yeah.  I’ll give -2 with the boxes.
[7:58] * Alanna sheathes her sword for the climb.
[7:59] <Alanna> “See, still no fuzzy little bunnies.  All lizards and snakes and rust beasts.”
[7:59] * Magnifico steadies the ladder for Alanna.
[7:59] * Hyacinth offers a hand up from the stairs.
[7:59] * Alanna makes her climb to the second floor.
[7:59] <DMhelper> Alanna’s Climb check: Failure (1d20(19)-d4(-2) = 17  1d20(12)-d4(-2) = 10 OGA = 14/7/3) Modifier Entered: -2 Light Encumbrance: 1
[8:00] <DM> Alanna grabs the rope and kinda just dangles.
[8:00] <Alanna> (I’ll let go and try again.)
[8:00] <DMhelper> Alanna’s Climb check: Good Success (1d20(6)-d4(-2) = 4 OGA = 14/7/3) Modifier Entered: -2 Light Encumbrance: 1
[8:00] <DM> This time Alanna shimmies up the rope.
[8:00] * Alanna draws her sword as soon as she reaches the top of the stairs.
[8:01] <DM> Who’s next?
[8:01] * Hyacinth finds a shadow to hide in.
[8:01] * Magnifico continues to hold the ladder for the others.
[8:03] * Obsidian tries, and slows a bit before continuing.
[8:03] <DM> -2, Obsidian.
[8:03] <Alanna> (Ah….I see.)
[8:04] * Phantom follows Obsidian up with just a little wobbliness at first.
[8:05] * Alanna whispers to the new arrivals at the top of the steps that she heard a noise in the next room.
[8:05] <Alanna> It was clanking. I think it’s a cute little bunny.
[8:07] <DM> Who’s next up the rope?
[8:07] <DM> Phantom…go ahead.
[8:07] * Magnifico intends to be last, and will continue trying to steady the ladder.
[8:07] <Phantom> Phantom is following Obsidian up.
[8:07] <DM> Obsidian is up.
[8:08] * Roamy follows.
[8:08] * Kys scrambles up as well.
[8:09] <DM> Phantom is up.
[8:09] <DM> Kys goes next.  Kys, make your climb check, please, at -2.
[8:11] <DM> Kys has trouble at first, as well.
[8:12] <Kys> ((nice to see the diceroller remembers me so well))
[8:12] <DM> (lol)
[8:12] <DM> Kys makes it up.
[8:12] <DM> Roamy and Magnifico are left below.
[8:13] <DM> Roamy next?
[8:13] <DM> Roamy scrambles right up.
[8:14] <DM> That leaves Magnifico.
[8:14] * Magnifico glances around to make sure he’s not about to be eaten.
[8:14] <DM> All quiet down below.
[8:14] * Magnifico tries to climb.
[8:14] <DMhelper> Magnifico’s Climb check: Ordinary Success (1d20(9)-d4(-4) = 5 OGA = 5/2/1) Modifier Entered: -2 Broad Skill: 1
[8:14] <DM> Magnifico climbs up the rope without a problem.
[8:15] <Magnifico> [amazing, for such a weakling]
[8:15] <Magnifico> “Shall we haul up the ladder, ladies?  Or take it with us?”
[8:15] <DM> You are in a hallway (crowded now) with a door facing the southwest, and an archway leading to a room in the northwest.  You can see into the room to the northwest.  This well-appointed living area is in shambles.  Books, cooking utenslis, seat cushions and chairs lie strewn about as if a small tornado had been loose in the room.  In the center of the room is a long table with the remains of what once was alchemist’s equipment.  Three lizards lap up liquid from broken bottles and vials on the floor.
[8:18] <Hyacinth> [and promptly become reptilian super-villains!]
[8:18] * Magnifico listens carefully to any noises made by the critters.
[8:18] <DM> The two lizards furthest from you are about the size of a full grown alligator (6 ft).  The one closest to you is easily twice that size.
[8:18] * Roamy eases into the room quietly, motioning the others around in a circle around the critters
[8:18] <DM> They have not yet been made aware of your presence
[8:19] * Phantom casts.
[8:19] <DM> inits pls

[8:20] <DM> Alanna is up first.
[8:21] <Alanna> “Are we still trying to subdue these things?”
[8:21] * Alanna moves forward, preparing to whack one with the flat of her blade, though not happy about it.
[8:22] <DM> As you approach, the lizards look up at you…and flick their tongues.
[8:22] <DMhelper> Liz1’s init: Marginal (1d20(19)+d0(0) = 19 MOGA = 11+/10/5/2)
[8:22] * Alanna doesn’t look right at them but swings her sword, hoping to knock one out.
[8:22] <Magnifico> [Why are we being so careful?  Are these transmogrified people, or just dangerous critters?]
[8:23] <Obsidian> (We were asked to not kill them, if at all possible.)
[8:23] <Alanna> (they keep telling me not to kill things.)
[8:23] <DM> Ordinary phase… everyone but Roamy, Magnifico and the lizards.
[8:23] <Alanna> (Now can I smack one of ‘em?)
[8:23] <DM> Yes, Alanna.
[8:23] <DM> liz1
[8:24] * Kys casts at the largest one.
[8:25] <DMhelper> Liz1’s Mental Resolve check: Failure (1d20(19)+d0(0) = 19 OGA = 11/5/2)
[8:25] * Hyacinth tries to listen at the SW door.
[8:26] <DM> All quiet.
[8:25] <Alanna> (Wow, the lizards have better mental resolve than Alanna! LOL!)
[8:25] <DM> Alanna whacks the largest lizard senseless as Kys dazes it.  It is unconscious.
[8:25] <Alanna> (good)
[8:26] * Phantom casts at the farthest one.
[8:26] <DM> Phantom, Obsidian and Hyacinth?
[8:29] <Obsidian> casting color spray if I can, or patterns
[8:31] <DM> Obsidian begins casting patterns.
[8:29] <DM> Alanna is in the way (of a color spray).
[8:27] <DM> Phantom begins to cast.
[8:29] <DM> In the meantime…marginal phase…everyone but Alanna.
[8:29] <Phantom> (can she hold her action then?)
[8:29] <DM> everyone but Alanna.
[8:29] * Magnifico moves into the big room.
[8:29] * Magnifico looks around for a small object to throw.
[8:30] * Kys casts at one of the other lizards - the one Obsidian didn’t cast at.
[8:31] <DM> …but her spell fizzles.
[8:31] <DMhelper> Liz2’s Mental Resolve check: Failure (1d20(19)+d0(0) = 19 OGA = 11/5/2)
[8:31] * Roamy moves carefully, holding her subduing attack until needed.
[8:32] * Phantom keeps concentrating on her successful patterns on the farthest lizard.
[8:32] <DM> Roamy moves into the room… Obsidian tries casting again…
[8:33] <DM> Hyacinth, what were you doing?
[8:33] * Hyacinth sees Magnifico fumbling around, and offers him a throwing knife.
[8:34] <DM> Okay.
[8:35] <DM> Electricity begins crackling around the two conscious lizards… arcing from one to the other in rapid oscillation, each arc snapping a bit louder…flashing a bit brighter…and an electric bolt shoots forth at Alanna.
[8:35] <DMhelper> Liz2’s LethalShock attack vs. Alanna: Good Success (1d20(8)-d6(-2) = 6 OGA = 15/7/3) Modifier Entered: -1 Alanna Resist: -1
[8:35] <DMhelper> Alanna’s Armor: Breastplate of Agility (d6-2): 2 Total: 2
[8:35] <DMhelper> Liz2’s damage roll: 10 (Damage Dice: 6 (d6+1w) Str (17): 4)
[8:35] <DMhelper> Liz2’s net damage to opponent Alanna - Primary: ( 8 Wound) Secondary: ( 5 Stun)
[8:36] <DM> her metallic breastplate conducts the electric shock very nicely
[8:36] <Hyacinth> [OW]
[8:35] * Magnifico waves off the proffered knife, and picks up a cooking utensil.
[8:36] <DM> 1d2
[8:36] * DMhelper throws the bones for DM (1d2) and gets 1.
[8:36] <Roamy> ((bummer))
[8:36] <DM> It then arcs to Phantom…
[8:36] <Phantom> Yikes!
[8:36] <Phantom> Yikes again!
[8:36] <DM> (who wears no metal armor)…
[8:37] <Phantom> (right)
[8:37] <DM> …and it stops there.
[8:37] <DM> Kys puts lizard #2 in a daze.
[8:38] * Alanna really, really wants to do more than subdue these things!
[8:38] <DM> Phantom…I need a will-mental resolve check to see if you can maintain concentration to finish your spell.
[8:38] <DM> at -1 pls
[8:38] <Phantom>( ok)
[8:39] <DM> Phantom is undaunted by the slight shock she felt, and finishes her hypnotic pattern spell.
[8:39] <DMhelper> Liz3’s Mental Resolve check: Failure (1d20(11)+d4(4) = 15 OGA = 11/5/2) Modifier Entered: 1
[8:40] <DM> All three lizards are unconscious.
[8:40] <Phantom> “We need to get ropes thrown around them, but watch out for the ten-foot radius of the hypnotic pattterns.”
[8:40] * Magnifico lets the utensil fall with a clatter, and rushes to Alanna.
[8:41] * Phantom looks to Obsidian, hoping she will heal Alanna.
[8:41] * Roamy moves to truss up the unconscious lizards, keeping an eye out for the missing snake thing.
[8:41] * Hyacinth puts away the knife, and begins searching the room carefully.
[8:41] * Kys moves to Alanna and lays hands on her, then doctors any burns or cuts from the shock.
[8:42] <DM> You can truss up #1 but to do the same to 2 and 3, you have to enter the hypnotic pattern.
[8:42] <Phantom> Need to throw ropes from ten feet, and lasso the others.
[8:42] * Magnifico looks at Alanna’s wounds.
[8:42] <DM> 3d6+4
[8:42] * DMhelper throws the bones for DM (3d6+4) and gets 15.
[8:42] <Magnifico> “How fare you, lady?”
[8:43] <DM> Kys cures Alanna.
[8:43] * Phantom smiles thankfully, knowing her own healing powers of faith are drained.
[8:44] <Alanna> “I’m fine.  A little shock and I think my hair is standing on end, but I’m okay.
[8:44] * Kys smiles at the hair comment.
[8:45] * Hyacinth giggles.
[8:45] * Alanna checks her armor for a scorch mark.
[8:45] * Roamy looks for the snake critter, avoiding the patterns for now.
[8:45] <Magnifico> “What shall we do with these beasts?”
[8:45] <Alanna> “I suppose they should go in some cages down there, eh?  So, who is our designated lizard-toter?”
[8:46] * Hyacinth chuckles.
[8:46] <Alanna> “Oh, and there’s probably a big snake up here somewhere too.  Snakeskin makes great boots.  Of course, we’re trying not to kill the beasts.”
[8:47] * Alanna sighs.
[8:47] <Hyacinth> “We should restrain the lizards and look for the snake.  But we should set them some distance apart, lest they burn through the ropes.  I am guessing that these things must be in some proximity to each other in order to effect their attack.”
[8:48] <Roamy> “I am sure the cages will not fit up the stairs.  Perhaps we can lower them carefully?
[8:48] <Phantom> “So, how do we get them captured before the spells discharge?”
[8:49] <Roamy> “But I should like to get the snake cornered before we make the attempt.”
[8:49] * Roamy keeps looking for the snake.
[8:49] <DM> The lizards will not be unconscious for long.
[8:49] <Hyacinth> “I agree. We should merely restrain these, and cage them only when the snake has also been dealt with.”
[8:49] <Phantom> (The spell only lasts for 2 rounds unless I stay here and concentrate on extending it.)
[8:50] <Hyacinth> “I have some resistance to such spells. Perhaps I should try binding them.”
[8:50] <DM> Obsidian also cast patterns, so either Obsidian or Phantom could maintain concentration.
[8:51] * Phantom nods to Obsidian and joins the others leaving Obsidian to keep the lizards under the spell.
[8:51] <DM> No sign of the snake.  You have a number of doors, though.  Two sets of double doors to the north, a door to the east, and a door to the south
[8:52] * Magnifico glances about for any books that might offer hints.
[8:52] * Alanna looks around under furniture for a big, ugly snake.
[8:52] * Hyacinth listens at the double doors.
[8:52] <DM> All quiet.
[8:52] <DM> In your search you find a vial that reads “petrification antidote - pour over petrified victim.”
[8:53] * Hyacinth picks up a vial on a table nearby. “Aha! An antidote to petrification!”
[8:53] <Roamy> “Well, if the snake isn’t here, let’s truss up the other two as well.  I have heard that laying them on their backs will keep them docile, and it is always wise to cover the eyes as well.”
[8:53] <Phantom> “You cannot truss them unless you do it from ten feet away, unless you have a strong will power.”
[8:54] * Kys nods to Hyacinth, “let’s go get her unpetrified then; perhaps she can help us.”
[8:54] <Hyacinth> “My thoughts exactly.”
[8:54] <Phantom> “That’s a good idea!”
[8:55] <Hyacinth> “We should leave enough people here to guard Obsidian, should the snake come here.”
[8:55] <Phantom> “I’ll stay.”
[8:55] * Magnifico looks around nervously.
[8:55] * Alanna is wandering around the room, looking around.
[8:55] <Alanna> “I’ll stay.”
[8:55] <Phantom> “No one should go anywhere alone.”
[8:55] <Kys> “I can handle the potion.  Now that the lower floor is clear, it will be safe.”
[8:55] <Hyacinth> “If necessary, I can sneak down myself. I will take an escort–one able to be silent and unseen when necessary.”
[8:55] * Alanna reaches for the doorknob of one of the sets of double doors.
[8:56] <Alanna> “Hey, you guys want me to check out what’s in there?”
[8:56] * Kys takes the potion from Hyacinth and heads downstairs carefully.
[8:56] <Phantom> “Not yet!”
[8:56] <Hyacinth> [Hey!]
[8:56] <Phantom> “Go help her, Hyacinth, Roamy!”
[8:56] * Kys winks at Hyacinth, “I’ll be right back.”
[8:57] * Alanna opens the door a little, teeny bit.
[8:57] * Hyacinth looks shocked, then disappointed, then angry.
[8:57] <Alanna> “No snake. Balcony.”
[8:57] * Alanna seems to have missed something.
[8:57] <Roamy> “Well, leave it closed.  We don’t want anything escaping into the streets that is dangerous.”
[8:57] <Alanna> “What’s up, Hyacinth?”
[8:57] <Hyacinth> “I had meant to go down myself, and Kys just took the potion from me without so much as asking!”
[8:58] <Alanna> “I’m sure she meant no offense.”
[8:58] <Phantom> “Kys shouldn’t be alone, anyway.”
[8:58] * Kys motions Hyacinth to come with her from the stairs.
[8:58] <Kys> “Well, come on, then.”
[8:58] * Hyacinth walks toward the stairs, seething.
[8:58] * Alanna sits down on a chair and watches the room, humming a bit.
[8:59] <DM> Okay…Hyacinth and Kys go downstairs.
[8:59] * Magnifico hovers near Alanna.
[8:59] <Magnifico> “You are quite well, my lady?”
[8:59] * Kys apologizes to Hyacinth for her haste.
[9:00] <DM> Hyacinth and Kys go down the ladder.
[9:00] * Roamy will try to lasso the critters and get them trussed from a distance, pulling them out of the circle if needed.
[9:00] * Hyacinth whispers that through her teeth, then falls silent.
[9:00] <DM> Suddenly, from the flue of the fireplace comes a creature with a long, serpentine body that trails away as it FLOATS towards…
[9:01] <DM> 1d5
[9:01] * DMhelper throws the bones for DM (1d5) and gets 4.
[9:01] <DM> Phantom
[9:01] <Phantom> “Huh?”
[9:01] * Phantom jumps.
[9:02:50] * Magnifico shrieks.
[9:01] * Roamy changes the aim of her lassoing to the snake thing
[9:01] <DM> It floats effortlessly through the air…and it has a single claw that juts forward near its head.

[9:03] <Roamy> ((well at least you might make it out of the way before it…whatever))
[9:03] <DM> Phantom and Alanna are up.
[9:03] * Phantom casts.
[9:03] <Alanna> (Moving now and swinging next segment, I think.)
[9:03] * Kys heads quickly for the petrified lady, giving back the vial to Hyacinth if she so desires it.
[9:04] * Hyacinth refuses the offer, but shadows Kys, looking and listening carefully.
[9:04] * Magnifico crawls toward Phantom, cowering.
[9:04] <DM> Phantom casts.
[9:05] <DM> Alanna, what are you doing?
[9:05] * Phantom tries to elude the monstrous snake thing.
[9:05] <Alanna> (Moved up, can I swing this segment? )
[9:05] <DM> Good phase…now you can.
[9:05] <Obsidian> (Ummmm…maintaining concentration)
[9:08] <DM> Alanna whacks the creature hard with her sword.
[9:09] <DM> Phantom you are up and your movement has increased significantly.
[9:09] <DM> You can basically move anywhere you like on the 2nd floor this phase
[9:11] * Phantom moves one step in front of Obsidian and casts.
[9:12] <DM> Phantom, make a con-endurance skill check, please, at +3.
[9:13] <DM> Phantom casts her spell.
[9:13] <Phantom> (oh, oh)
[9:14] <DM> Ordinary phase.. Roamy, Kys and Hyacinth
[9:14] <Phantom> “He reflected my spell!”
[9:14] <DM> Kys and Hyacinth revive the owner.
[9:15] <Hyacinth> “Welcome back to the living.”
[9:15] * Magnifico finds another cooking utensil.
[9:15] <Alanna> (Maybe he should go to Spatula City)
[9:15] <DM> Whatcha doing, Roamy?
[9:15] * Roamy throws the lasso to snare the snake’s head.
[9:15] <DM> Make a dex-rope use check, please.
[9:16] <DM> Roamy was unable to lasso the creature.
[9:16] <DM> Marginal phase…Roamy, Magnifico and the creature.
[9:17] <DM> The creature turns on Alanna, who struck it.
[9:17] * Magnifico steps in front of Phantom, and raises the pasta-stirrer like a holy sword.
[9:18] <Magnifico> “Avaunt, foul creature!  Know that I hold thy doom!”
[9:18] * Alanna glares at the creature.
[9:18] * Roamy tries again.
[9:18] * Obsidian blinks at Magnifico, and almost loses her concentration trying not to laugh
[9:19] <Alanna> “Are we still trying to subdue this thing? Or can I just kill it?”
[9:19] <Obsidian> “Subdue would be the preference…flat of the blade?”
[9:19] <Magnifico> “Allow me, lady!  With this enchanted…item, I shall dispel it!”
[9:20] * Alanna raises an eyebrow and smiles at Magnifico.
[9:21] <DM> The creature stares at Magnifico for a moment…and backs toward the fireplace.
[9:22] <Obsidian> (laughing, I think I would too!)
[9:21] * Alanna looks on in shock….
[9:21] <Alanna> “What IS that thing?”
[9:21] * Alanna gestures toward Magnifico’ pasta stick!
[9:21] <Magnifico> “You see, vile worm, this blade is enchanted with your bane-work.  Your true name etched in eldritch runes, to thy unworking!
[9:22] * Alanna looks, impressed, at Magnifico.
[9:22] <Phantom> “Tell it to get back in its cage, Magnifico.”
[9:23] <Magnifico>” …Or shall I shout your true name to the skies, that thou’lt be harried day and night ‘twixt heaven and earth?”
[9:23] * Magnifico advances…menacingly.
[9:23] <DM> The creature lowers its head, and hovers at Magnifico’s kneecaps.
[9:24] <Magnifico> “Into thy cage at once, lest I loose this power!”
[9:24] <DM> the creature floats out of the room to the stairs and down
[9:25] <DM> (spoon! spoon!)
[9:25] * Magnifico ’s eyes grow large, and he looks at the pasta-stirrer.
[9:25] <Obsidian> (The trick is…there is no spoon!)
[9:25] * Alanna moves over and pats Magnifico’s shoulder.
[9:25] <Alanna> “Wow. I am impressed.  All I can do is whack things.”
[9:26] * Magnifico scratches his head wonderingly.
[9:26] <DM> The creature floats past Kys and Hyacinth as they revive Gwendolyn…and into its cage.
[9:26] * Hyacinth watches wonderingly.
[9:21] <Alanna> So, everything has been dealt with then?
[9:26] * Hyacinth shuts the cage.
[9:27] <DM> Yes.
[9:27] <Phantom> “We need to get those lizards in their cages.”
[9:27] * Obsidian barely maintains her concentration.
[9:28] <Phantom> “I’ll try to go into the hypnotic pattern and see if I can tie them up.”
[9:28] * Alanna moves forward. “So, what, we pick them up?”
[9:28] <Phantom> “Give me the rope, would you?”
[9:28] * Alanna tosses some rope to Phantom.
[9:29] <Phantom> “If I become hypnotized, maybe the shopkeeper has an idea for when the spell ends.”
[9:29] <DM> Gwen and Elgeen enter the room.
[9:29] * Phantom walks into the hypnotic pattern with the ropes.
[9:29] <Hyacinth> “Welcome to the living, Gwen.”
[9:29] *** Gwen (Obsidian@static-70-110-70-2.tampfl.fios.verizon.net) has joined the channel
[9:30] * Hyacinth smiles warmly.
[9:30] <Gwen> “Thank you, madam.”
[9:30] <DM> Phantom is unaffected by the colors.
[9:30] * Phantom ties up the lizards
[9:30] *** Elgeen (Obsidian@static-70-110-70-2.tampfl.fios.verizon.net) has joined the channel
[9:30] * Phantom walks back out, and tells Obsidian she can quit concentrating.
[9:30] * Elgeen beams at Gwendolyn.
[9:30] <Hyacinth> “We have all but dealt with the creatures in the shop.”
[9:31] * Obsidian blinks and stops, looking a little bit bewildered.
[9:31] <Elgeen> “I got these people to help, Mistress Gwen.”
[9:31] * Alanna hands Obsidian some jerky.
[9:31] <Alanna> You look hungry Obsidian.
[9:31] <Hyacinth> “I am called Hyacinth. This is Kys.”
[9:31] * Obsidian eats and looks around the room, nervously watching the lizards.
[9:31] <Phantom> “I tied them thoroughly, Obsidian.”
[9:31] <Gwen> I am Gwen Murani, and this is Elgeen.  I guess you have already met him.
[9:31] * Roamy gives a big smile to Gwen.
[9:32] * Hyacinth introduces the others as they appear.
[9:32] * Elgeen offers his hand to you all with a word of thanks.
[9:32] <Roamy> “Quite the menagerie you have, madam.  You need be more cautious.”
[9:32] <Phantom> “How did you come to be petrified, Mistress Gwen?”
[9:32] <Gwen> “The ravid manipulated the lock on his cage and let out all the others.”
[9:32] <Phantom> “Which was the ravid?”
[9:33] <Gwen> “The snake.”
[9:33] * Kys smiles and gives a little wave, then heads back up to see if anyone else need any healing
[9:33] <Gwen> “A cockatrice pecked me.”
[9:33] <Phantom> Ah, indeed!
[9:33] <Obsidian> “I’ve a minor wound, but I think I’m mostly okay.”
[9:34:07] * Kys take a look at the wound, and administers to it.
[9:33] <Hyacinth> “Pecked…so the birds are cockatrices.”
[9:33] <Phantom> “That is why you keep antidotes.”
[9:33] <Gwen> “Yes.  I make antidotes…which is why I need the cockatrices.”
[9:33] * Magnifico steps forward, and bows to Gwen.
[9:33] <Magnifico> “Then for your ravid, madam, I offer you this gift.”
[9:34] * Magnifico hands over the pasta-stirrer gravely.
[9:34] * Alanna looks very confused indeed.
[9:34] * Gwen takes it and looks at it oddly.
[9:34] * Hyacinth laughs merrily at Magnifico’ gesture.
[9:34] <Gwen> “Why…uh…thank you.”
[9:34] <Magnifico> “Use it wisely, I charge you.”
[9:34] <Gwen> “I…shall.”  *looks confused*
[9:34] <Alanna> “It made that snake-thing listen to him.  It was trying to eat me, then Magnifico here told it to get to its cage and off it went.  Really.”
[9:35] <Roamy> “Magnifico, you should tell her how you managed that, just in case.”
[9:36] <Phantom> Slow down everyone-let her answer each in turn!
[9:36] <Magnifico> Such secrets, lady Roamy, are not for all ears.
[9:37] * Magnifico winks.
[9:37] * Roamy grins and nods to Magnifico. “Well, take a private moment with her later then, if you please, sir.”
[9:36] <DM> You notice the boy’s hands are badly burned and scarred, and that perhaps there was a tattoo or something on the back of his right hand.  You can barely make it out–maybe a vertical line slashed by 3 horizontal…or 4…you can’t really tell.
[9:35] <Alanna> “Hey, do you know anything about the troubles in the Shaar? Just curious.”
[9:37] <Gwen> “Troubles in the Shaar?  There are lots lately.”
[9:37] * Hyacinth holds her hands out to Elgeen. “Show me your hands. What happened?”
[9:37] * Kys moves to elgeen and tends to his badly burned hands with care
[9:35] <Obsidian> “Ma’am, may we trouble you for two antidotes for the road?  I have heard a tale… of a poor lost mage… at the bottom of a river.  Turned to stone, he was.”
[9:37] <Gwen> “I can give you 2 antidotes, certainly.  I owe you at least that.”
[9:38] * Elgeen extends his hands.
[9:38] <DM> They are badly scarred from burns.
[9:38] <Alanna> “What happened?”
[9:38] <Gwen> “He burned them badly as a child.”
[9:38] <Alanna> “How?”
[9:38] <DM> Elgeen is about eight or nine now.
[9:39] * Hyacinth looks horrified. “And what is this tattoo on your hand?”
[9:39] * Elgeen shrugs.
[9:39] * Alanna looks at the tattoo.
[9:39] <Gwen> “I do not know how.  I found him along the road by a dead wolf, badly burned.”
[9:40] <Alanna> “Tattoo? What tattoo?”
[9:40] <Gwen> “What tattoo?”
[9:40] <Alanna> “I don’t see it, Hyacinth.”
[9:40] * Hyacinth sketches out the outlines. “It’s barely visible underneath the scars.”
[9:40] * Gwen looks closely.
[9:40] * Alanna looks more closely.
[9:40] * Kys gets down on one knee, and does her best to charm the boy “Do you know?  Do you remember what happened to your hands?”
[9:40] <Gwen> “I don’t see anything.”
[9:40] <Elgeen> “No, ma’am.”
[9:40] * Alanna digs for a small piece of charcoal.
[9:41] <Alanna> “Hyacinth, draw it out for me.”
[9:41] <Gwen> “He was just a baby when I found him.”
[9:41] * Hyacinth takes the charcoal and painstakingly sketches out what she sees, and a couple of speculative completions of the design.
[9:41] * Magnifico watches closely, alert to Alanna’s urgent tone.
[9:42] <DM> Hyacinth draws a vertical line slashed by three diagonal lines.
[9:42] <Alanna> “He’s not from one of the plains clans.”
[9:42] * Phantom watches, curious about what is going on.
[9:42] <Alanna> “Their marks would be in a different place, anyway.  The Shaaran clans mark their members inside the left arm.”
[9:43] * Hyacinth retrieves a small vial of unguent and cleans her hands of the charcoal. “The mark is unfamiliar to me.”
[9:43] <Alanna> “So, you’ve no parents, child?”
[9:43] <Elgeen> “Mistress Gwen.”
[9:43] <Alanna> “No idea who your ancestors were?”
[9:43] <Elgeen> “Amcesters?”
[9:44] <Alanna> “The ones who came before you. They watch over you, even if you do not know them.”
[9:44] * Hyacinth raises her eyebrows.
[9:44] <Elgeen> “Spirits?”
[9:44] <Alanna> “Yes, spirits.  We cannot see them.  At least I cannot.  Some can.”
[9:44] <Elgeen> “Can you, Mistress Gwen?”
[9:45] <Gwen> “I’m afraid not, Elgeeen.”
[9:45] * Elgeen looks to you all.
[9:45] <Elgeen> “Can you?”
[9:45] <Alanna> “Few can.”
[9:45] * Kys ruffles the boy’s hair playfully.”
[9:45] <Alanna> “I can’t. My grandmother could, but she is dead.”
[9:45] * Elgeen looks sad.
[9:46] <Kys> You did a very brave thing today Elgeen, getting help for Gwen.  I know she is very proud of you.”
[9:46] * Hyacinth nods. “Had you not sent for help, things might have been much worse.”
[9:47] * Kys moves to Magnifico and whispers in his ear.
[9:47] * Elgeen beams a smile at Kys
[9:48] <Gwen> What can I offer you in payment?  A few potions, perhaps?”
[9:48] * Magnifico whispers back to Kys.
[9:48] <Magnifico> “Such witchery is beyond my poor wits, madam.”
[9:49] <Gwen> “Perhaps an improved wit potion for you, my good sir.”
[9:49] * Kys frowns at Magnifico, and smiles broadly at the boy.
[9:49] * Hyacinth laughs. “We would not know what to do with him, if he had an improved wit!”
[9:50] <Magnifico> “Wine, madam, has been said to improve my wits.”
[9:50] <Alanna> “Did you have any idea where he might have come from? There were no parents found with him?”
[9:50] <Gwen> “I found him on the side of the road, between the Shaar and Halruaa.”
[9:50] <Alanna> “Odd.”
[9:51] <Hyacinth> “I will keep this sketch for later.”
[9:50] <Gwen> “I have no idea who he belonged to–probably a traveling caravan.”
[9:51] <Alanna> “Child, do you have a mark inside your arm…like this?”
[9:51] * Alanna rolls up her sleeve, showing her clan mark.
[9:51] * Hyacinth whispers to Gwen.
[9:53] <Gwen> “Yes, I can make some.”
[9:53] <Hyacinth> “Thank you.”
[9:51] <Alanna> “If he was under three months of age, he might not have one anyway, even if he was from one of the clans.  Still, you seem to be taking good care of him…so he has someone.”
[9:52] <Gwen> “He is like a son to me.”
[9:52] <Kys> “And a good son, indeed he is.”
[9:52] * Kys smiles down at the boy.
[9:52] * Phantom nods.
[9:53] * Gwen nods to Hyacinth.
[9:53] * Alanna smiles at the child.
[9:53] * Hyacinth smiles.
[9:53] <Alanna> “He’s a good boy.”
[9:53] <Gwen> “Yes, m’lady, he is a very good boy.  If you return tomorrow, I will have some potions for you.”
[9:53] <Roamy> “We were happy to be of assistance ma’am, but you are going to need a new set of stairs, I am afraid.”
[9:55] <Gwen> “Things are a bit of a mess right now.”
[9:57] <Hyacinth> Indeed. The lizards drank from most of the vials upstairs. I was lucky to find the anti-petrification antidote intact.
[9:56] <Alanna> “So, shall we find an inn now, and rest?  Tomorrow we head into the Shaar.  I will be happy to see the seas of grass again.  And the herds.”
[9:59] * Magnifico watches Alanna.
[9:56] * Roamy offers to help get the lizards from upstairs, if Gwen requires assistance.
[9:57] <Gwen> Gwen appreciates Roamy’s offer, and takes her up on it.
[9:58] * Phantom walks over to the broken stairway, reaches up and touches the good rung.
[9:59] <DM> Hmm, that looks like a skill check, Phantom.
[9:59] * Phantom seems to be concentrating on the stairs.
[9:59] <DM> Did you cast?
[10:00] <Phantom> (I’ll try again.)
[10:00] * Phantom lays her other hand on the stairway.
[10:01] <DM> (mending won’t quite work here.  It repairs small breaks and tears in objects.  This is far greater.
[10:01] <Phantom> (darn)
[10:01] * Phantom shakes her head, and tells the others that iron work needs to be done here.
[10:01] <Kys> “Where are the lizards cages, Gwen?  Can we lower the lizards into them?
[10:01] <Gwen> “Yes.”
[10:01] * Gwen gets the cages so the lizards can be lowered into them.
[10:02] <Gwen> “I will need to fetch a smith, I fear.”
[10:02] * Kys moves upstairs via the rope ladder, and secures the animals in pulley-fashion to be lowered downstairs.
[10:03] <DM> With some work, you get all the lizards into their cages.
[10:03] * Alanna helps with the lizards.
[10:03] * Roamy goes upstairs to be the muscle.
[10:03] * Hyacinth helps Kys guide them down from below.
[10:03] * Magnifico lends his inconsiderable strength to the effort.
[10:03] * Gwen thanks you again.
[10:03] * Elgeen supervises.
[10:04] <Elgeen> “Come back in the morning for your potions.”
[10:04] * Elgeen smiles.
[10:04] <Roamy> “Take greater precautions with your beasts, madam, and thank you Elgeen, for being so smart as to get help.”
[10:04] * Phantom follows Alanna out the door.
[10:05] * Roamy smiles at the boy and bids them farewell until tomorrow
[10:05] * Elgeen grins at Roamy.
[10:04] * Alanna waves, and is happy to get out of there.
[10:05] * Kys waves and follows the others out.
[10:06] <DM> going to an inn?
[10:06] * Hyacinth waves and leaves as well.
[10:06] <Phantom> “I’m ready for a glass of wine, a hot meal, and a good night’s sleep!”
[10:06] * Kys nods.
[10:06] <DM> the sun has set.
[10:06] <Alanna> “Yes, an inn. Preferably one with no mass murderers nearby.”
[10:06] <DM> Hehe.
[10:06] <Alanna> “And ale. I need ale…food, too.”
[10:07] <Hyacinth> “I will settle for a featherbed and a fine wine.”
[10:07] * Roamy nods in agreement with Alanna
[10:07] <DM> Gwen tells you the Palms of Arrabar is a nice inn.
[10:07] <Alanna> “Thanks for the advice. I think we’ll try it.”
[10:08] <Phantom> “The Palms of Arrabar it is!”
[10:08] * Magnifico sings softly, “The Homeward Road.”
[10:08] <Alanna> “So, Magnifico…how did you do that with the snake?  It was magnificent!”
[10:08] * Magnifico stops, and turns to Alanna.
[10:08] * Alanna looks at Magnifico.
[10:08] <Magnifico> “In truth, I know not.”
[10:08] <DM> All right…actually this is a good place to stop, methinks.
[10:08] <Alanna> Sounds good.
[10:08] <Phantom> That was fun!
[10:08] <Alanna> I’ve got a huge headache anyway!
[10:08] <DM> good work folks!
[10:08] <Roamy> great session all, thanks scott
[10:09] <Alanna> Night!
[10:09] <DM> good night!  =)
