Sergeant John’s 3-D Chiller House of Terror!

And the Carbon Monoxide Is a Vitamin

China’s legendary air pollution, a by-product of their rapid industrialization and failure to regulate, has been redefined as “mist” in what must be one of the most darkly amusing whoppers of the Beijing Olympic season:
But yesterday Arne Ljungqvist, chairman of the IOC’s medical commission, said he was confident that pollution would not harm athletes or [...]

D&D, Fourth Edition

It appears that Wizards of the Coast will announce a planned fourth edition of the famous role-playing game today at GenCon.  Fans everywhere will soon have the opportunity to buy all their books over again.

Building Buildings

I’m constructing WorldWorks Games’ Watch Tower, and documenting the steps on the Reaper boards. It’s made of card stock, plus a little foamcore for flooring. WorldWorks designs the downloadable .pdf files, and I print ‘em myself, cut, fold and glue.

Shipbuilding

While I’m on vacation, construction is proceeding apace on The Maiden, a cardstock model ship. Updates more or less daily, so that I can have this done by the weekend. Here’s a mini I just painted, also for Blood & Roses.

Neverwinter and Talisman on the PC

I’m not a PC gamer. Really, I’m not. As much as I love role-playing games, their computerized counterparts generally bore me silly. The clumsy plotting, laughable voice acting and ridiculous FedEx plot devices grate on me after a couple of hours of play.
I have however, been spending an unusual amount of time [...]

Blood & Roses

New to the sidebar is the site I’m cobbling together for our pseudo-monthly Dungeons & Dragons campaign. Pete runs cinematic action games, and Blood & Roses: Eyes of the Shadow might be the best yet. He goes so far as to flash “credits” before us at the beginning of our sessions, and he and we [...]

Under The Hill Chapter Three Done

…and logged. I’m awed by the improvisational skills of Lynne, Gina, Melissa and Scott. My concept for this game, that of collaborative storytelling, is working smoothly, as everyone is stepping up with creative input. It has long since occurred to me that what we’re building here is a lot like a screenplay.
A [...]

Home Again

Another DragonCon under my belt. Highlights this year included Michael Thompson’s Savage Worlds adventure, “Doc Coleman of Mars,” in which the eponymous bandleader and his fellow mercenary agents fight to destroy a secret Nazi base on Mars–a Mars of which Edgar Rice Burroughs would be proud. Leather thong included; Nikola Tesla sold separately. [...]

1 Week ‘Til DragonCon!

We spend every Labor Day weekend downtown at DragonCon, the largest sci-fi/fantasy/whatever convention in the world. This year Scott is bringing Debi (another of our Wednesday night IRC gamers) with him from Florida, and we’ll stretch a four-day con into nearly a week of fun.
We’re planning fine dining and other extracurriculars, including Medieval Times, [...]

Blood & Roses, Session 6

Another great Dungeons & Dragons game tonight. The underground assault on the winery of Monsigneur Montalba went off without a hitch, at first. The underground passageway was just where Justiciar Richard Valencourt expected it to be, and it was not filled with terrible subterranean creatures or traps. The magic mouth alarm proved highly inconvenient, but [...]

Why, oh why?

This is a new look for my site, a lighter and less claustrophobic style unlikely to frighten children or livestock. It contains zero trans fat and no bovine growth hormone (BGH). The 3-D Chiller House of Terror is not intended to treat any disease. Your results may vary. Please consult your doctor before reading any new blog.
