Egret!

Posted on | August 10, 2008

This bird is not quite as shy as the heron who hangs around–I’ve gotten to within ten feet (with Sadie the Cattle Dog in tow, yet) before it flew away. Lynne alerted me to “a spot of white” on the island this morning, so while walking Sadie I was prepared to get the picture. The common egret looks remarkably like the white mode of the great blue heron, but is distinguished by its dark, rather than pale, legs.
