Senator Outed by “DC Madame”

Here’s another “family values” candidate revealed as a hypocrite. Senator David Vitter (R-LA) has finally recalled—after being caught, naturally—that his number must indeed be on alleged DC madame Deborah Jeane Palfrey’ phone records:

“This was a very serious sin in my past for which I am, of course, completely responsible,” said Vitter in a statement. “Several years ago, I asked for and received forgiveness from God and my wife in confession and marriage counseling. Out of respect for my family, I will keep my discussion of the matter there-with God and them. But I certainly offer my deep and sincere apologies to all I have disappointed and let down in any way.”

According to Vitter, his phone number appeared on the phone records of the escort service Pamela Martin and Associates before he ran for the Senate in 2004.

From 1999 to 2004, Vitter served as a congressmen in Louisiana’s 1st district.

Vitter Statement on Protecting the Sanctity of Marriage

He’ll never be convicted of prostitution based on a phone record and a carefully non-specific “confession,” but the revelation would seem to signal the downfall of a senator who ran on being what obviously is not.
