The Conyers Report
Posted on | August 1, 2006
Count on Congressman John Conyers to take the concept of Congressional oversight seriously. He has compiled a list of possible crimes committed by the Bush Administration. His conclusion, on pages 14-15 (the rest is footnotes), is perhaps overly cautious:
“My report has found that the last six years under the presidency of George W. Bush and the GOP-controlled Congress have brought about the constitutionally dangerous circumstances of not only abuse of power, but also unchecked abuse of power….”
Conyers aptly quotes Dr. King: “A time comes when silence is betrayal.” Where is the rest of Congress, and where are the citizens’ voices?
